Clear Path Mutual Announces Credit Ratings from AM Best

Posted By Administration, Wednesday, March 20, 2019

AM Best has assigned a Financial Strength Rating of A- (Excellent) and a Long-Term Issuer Credit Rating of "a-" to PIA of Kentucky partner, Clear Path Mutual Insurance Company.

The ratings reflect ClearPath’s balance sheet strength, which AM Best categorizes as very strong, as well as its adequate operating performance, limited business profile and appropriate enterprise risk management. ClearPath’s risk-adjusted capitalization, as measured by Best’s Capital Adequacy Ratio (BCAR), is categorized as strongest and AM Best expects it to remain at a similar level in future years. The balance sheet strength assessment also considers the company’s above average reserve leverage, conservative approach to establishing reserves, history of favorable reserve development and generally low risk investment portfolio.

ClearPath has generated an adequate level of operating performance, supported by favorable underwriting income and moderate investment returns in recent years. Underwriting results have benefited from favorable reserve development trends on prior accident years. ClearPath has limited business diversification as single-state, mono-line workers’ compensation insurer, which leaves it susceptible to competitive pressures in Kentucky, as well as potential legislative, regulatory or judicial changes. This concern is mitigated partly by the company’s favorable market position within the state and local market expertise. Risk-management capabilities are considered appropriate for the risk profile of the company.

Posted By Administration, Wednesday, October 3, 2018

Brian Little, Territory Director and John Kautzer, General Manager Sales from Acuity with PIA National President Tim Russell

The National Association of Professional Insurance Agents (PIA) has named Acuity the recipient of its prestigious 2018 Company Award of Excellence. The presentation was made on September 28, 2018 at a gala ceremony held in conjunction with PIA’s Board of Directors meeting in Portland, Maine.

“This is our Association’s highest annual company honor,” said PIA National President Tim Russell, in presenting the award. “In all that it does, Acuity places a high value on creating the best partnership with independent agents. One of Acuity’s major priorities is making it easy for agents to do business with them.”

“Acuity is a perfect business partner for independent insurance agents,” Russell said.

“Acuity loves agents,” said Ben Salzmann, Acuity President and CEO. “Acuity has the heart of a regional carrier with the strength of a national and is honored to have earned the PIA National Company Award of Excellence.”

The PIA National Company Award of Excellence honors a company for its commitment to PIA, to the American Agency System and to furthering the interests of professional insurance agents by creating a better business environment.

“To be recognized as company of the year from PIA National is a tremendous honor and very humbling,” said Wally Waldhart, Acuity Vice President - Sales and Communications. “We work to be a strong business partner and the ‘go-to’ company for independent agents, and to receive national recognition for our efforts is a wonderful validation of the efforts of everyone at Acuity.”

PIAK Partner ClearPath Mutual Names New CEO

Posted By Administration, Wednesday, September 12, 2018

The Board of Directors of ClearPath Mutual Insurance Company announced the appointment of Jeff Borkowski as the company’s Chief Executive Officer effective September 1, 2018.

ClearPath Mutual Insurance Company was formed on January 1, 2018 and is domiciled in Louisville, Kentucky. The company is a result of its reorganization from KESA, The Kentucky Workers’ Compensation Fund, which was a self-insured workers’ compensation fund. KESA decided to reorganize as a mutual because the mutual company structure allows so much more flexibility and greater opportunities for growth. As a mutual, ClearPath can provide better service to its agents and policyholders and offer several key benefits:

• The elimination of joint and several liability.
• The ability to eventually write coverage outside the boundaries of Kentucky.
• The opportunity for greater growth and scalability.
• The improved organizational and financial flexibility needed to remain financially strong.

ClearPath Mutual has approximately 7,300 policyholders and nearly $60 million in premiums, making it one of the largest and most financially stable providers of workers’ compensation in Kentucky. Its policyholders pay a premium based on their exposures, classification codes, payroll, and experience modification. Premiums are then used to pay claims and administrative expenses, such as loss prevention services and legal, actuarial, and management costs.
